Jet can be used as a billing system by rating usage and providing flexible plan management. Usage can be in multiple forms, and a single realm can provide billing for convergent systems; data, voice, utilities etc. Jet’s billing engine allows you to set up bundles, plans, fees and bands, ensuring simple to very complex plans can be managed easily. From recurring fees, to one-off line items, you can bill your client’s plans easily, and then provide usage charges based on a number of factors; quota plans such as providing 100 GB per month to $250 of calls are common tools used, as well as banding on usage where the first X amount is charged at $A, and the next Y amount is charged at $B.
Jet’s rating engine provides no-fuss rating on all usage, be it data, voice, electricity or any other form of usage data. The rating tables allow for usage types to be rated based on numerous factors. Data installations using supported edge devices can rate data based on the data type, e.g. torrents vs web browsing, as well as calendaring (peak and off-peak), voice installations can rate on A-end to B-end calls, international and national rating tables, as well as doing cost plus on voice providers. Utilities can rate up and downstream usage so Solar companies can rate usage into and out of the grid to provide accurate billing.
Jet presents invoices and receipts as PDF files. In standard usage, invoices are automatically e-mailed to customers as they are created, permitting completely automated, hands-off billing. Automatic delivery of invoices may be switched off if desired (for example, if invoices are to be printed and posted rather than delivered electronically).
PDF invoices can be modified in certain pre-defined ways (logo, colours, watermark) via the web-based interface to reflect the organisational style. More complex invoices including graphical representation of data, and advertising materials can also be provided by Obsidian.
Jet includes a range of APIs and protocols to facilitate user provisioning, including:
- RADIUS file
- SMTP (e-mail)
- Command line tools
Jet’s flexible API and built-in hooks allow you to trigger arbitrary actions on almost any system event, such as sending a welcome e-mail on account creation, sending warning e-mails when a user exceeds a % of their usage, and automatically suspend overdue accounts.
System trigger events include, account creation, suspension, deletion, detail changes, password changes and plan changes.
